Educational Outreach

TO CONFRONT AND ENGAGE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH THE ESSENTIAL SCIENTIFIC CONSIDERATIONS NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE TRANSFORMATION OF GERMANY TO A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY NATION

Energy conversion science also provides a remarkable opportunity for scientific outreach to the young people of Germany and worldwide and we intend, with the leadership of the XLAB, to work with high School teachers and students to help develop new ways of teaching and learning science at a high level. A holistic understanding of the “energy problem” requires knowledge from multiple fields be combined in lessons that focus on understanding natural phenomena and humanity’s impact on the Earth. The relevance of science to real world problems will be immediately clear to students participating in this learning environment. The potential to enthuse students to consider careers in science will be a major advantage of this approach. In addition, the importance of technical and quantitative understanding of the energy problem to every citizen will also be emphasized. Professors working at the cutting edge of energy research will work with teachers and students from high schools in Germany to develop appropriate learning modalities for energy science material.

Annual Summer School

ICASEC supports and co-organizes an annual summer school about topics in energy related research. In collaboration with the XLAB also pupils participate in the summer school and get an introduction to current research by top scientist and can do related experiemnts at the XLAB.

Summer School on Interfaces and Energy, 2016

Summer School on Organic Catalysis for Energy Conversion, 2017

Summer School on Ultrafast Dynamics in Solids, 2018

Summer School on Electrochemical Approches to Chemical Synthesis, 2019

Due to Covid-19 the Summer School in 2020 had to be cancelled and was shifted to 2021.

Summer School on Theoretical Methods for Energy Conversion, 2021

Collaboration with XLAB

ICASEC closely collaborates with the XLAB. More details can be found here.

Collaboration with SFB 1073

ICASEC supports the educational outreach team of the SFB 1073. The central objective of the related outreach work is the public presentation of the SFB 1073‘s research subjects, methods and results. Thereby, the SFB participates in fairs and public events and offers workshops for school student groups. Furthermore, the SFB together with ICASEC cooperates with the XALB to organize holiday camps related to energy research.
