The International Center for Advanced Studies of Energy Conversion organized a Summer School from September 16-20, 2018 on the topic “Ultrafast Dynamics in Solids”. The chairmen were Stefan Mathias and Claus Ropers.

The summer school „Ultrafast Dynamics in Solids“ provided an introduction to the physics of photo-induced non-equilibrium processes in solids. Geared to an audience of M.Sc. and early PhD students, the summer school provided a general overview of electron, lattice, and spin dynamics following optical excitation. Lectures given by leading scientists in the field introduced the important scientific questions in ultrafast solid state physics, as well as the respective experimental and theoretical methodologies to address them. These introductory talks were complemented by research presentations on recent results and topics of high current interest.
